Titles and Ranks

In Japanese karate, titles and ranks are essential components that signify an individual's level of expertise, authority,

and contribution to the art. These designations reflect not only technical skill but also character, dedication, and the

ability to teach and lead others.

Hanshi	8^th, 9^th or 10^th Dan
Kyoshi	7^th Dan
Shihan	6^th / 7^th Dan
Renshi	5^th / 6^th Dan

Sensei	Teacher (includes all the above)

Mudansha	1^st Kyu thru 10^th Kyu
Yudansha	A group of Black Belts in a dojo or organization

Ryu-Ha	Name of your style – Senshi Damashii Ryu Karate Do
Kai-Ha	Name of Association

Senpai or Sempai	A person senior to yourself in rank
Dohai	A person equal to yourself in rank
Kohai	A person junior to yourself in rank

Dan	Rank or Level within Black Belt or Kata
Kyu	Rank or Level under Black Belt
