Belt Testing

Dear Students and Families,

At Warrior Spirit Karate, our goal is to help every student grow with confidence, discipline, and skill.
We’re excited to announce an important improvement to our belt promotion process that supports that mission.

Effective immediately, we are moving away from formal belt test days and shifting to a skill-based promotion system.
Students will now earn their next rank by consistently demonstrating the required skills, attitude, and effort
during their regular classes—not just through a one-time performance.

🔍 How It Works
  • No scheduled test days. Students will be evaluated during regular class sessions.
  • Instructors assess progress continuously, watching for mastery of techniques, positive behavior, and strong work ethic.
  • Promotions happen when students are ready, with a brief recognition moment during class.

✅ What’s Expected of Students
To be eligible for promotion:
  • Attend class regularly. Consistent participation is key to progress.
  • Stay focused and give your best effort every time you step on the mat.
  • Tie your belt correctly before class begins. This small but important detail shows responsibility and readiness.
(If you need help, our instructors are happy to assist.)

💡 Why This Change?
  • Promotes steady growth rather than test-day performance.
  • Reduces anxiety and makes learning more natural and fun.
  • Encourages consistent effort and accountability in every class.
  • Reinforces the values we teach: perseverance, confidence, and personal responsibility.

Students will still earn every belt—they’ll simply do it by staying engaged and showing daily improvement.

We’re confident this approach will help your child thrive on their martial arts journey.
If you have questions or would like to discuss how this affects your student, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Don Mathews, 9th Dan
